LOVE, UH, FINDS A WAY…

Well that was quite the year, or half a year really! The first six months of 2021 were so very quiet – three of those months were spent within 20km of our home, and while the next three allowed for some travels around Donegal and parts of Ireland, it wasn’t until July that weddings were back again, and wow were they back with a bang!

With a year’s worth of weddings in six months, we were right in at the deep end and it was all sorts of amazing! It felt so good to be back out in the world, meeting people and photographing love stories. We travelled to Scotland and England, and to all corners of Ireland, and it reminded us just how lucky we are to do this for a living.

The pandemic remained the background noise throughout the year – there were ups and downs and two steps forward, three steps back, but amid the ever-changing restrictions, postponements and cancellations, love found a way. At every wedding we photographed, there was so much love and gratitude in the room – for a moment everyone present could focus on something joyful. Everything felt even more special, everything we’d been missing for so long.

2021 also brought some big developments for this wee business too – my husband Ciarán came on board full-time in October after spending the last few years helping out on top of his day job. We had been planning this since late 2019, but then some global pandemic stuff happened and we put it on the back-burner. We’re delighted to finally be able to take this step now – expect to see Ciarán popping up more in 2022!

There was another big deal for me personally in 2021 in the shape of some awards. I achieved a long-held dream and was named one of Rangefinder Magazine’s 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography. It’s an incredible honour to be included on this prestigious international list – I still can’t quite believe it. I plan to write a proper blog post on that very soon, so keep an eye on this space!

I also won my first ever Fearless Award, and came in the Top Ten Photographers in Ireland for This is Reportage for the second year running. Obviously awards are not why we do this, but at the same time it is lovely to gain recognition for your work – especially after the last couple of years when at times it felt like Remain In Light might not survive the lockdowns.

As always, I am so incredibly grateful to all of my couples, each and every one of whom are absolute frickin superstars. Thank you to all of you for choosing us to be a part of this most wonderful of days, and trusting us to capture it for you.

Here’s a selection of photographs from last year, make it big and enjoy!
